ROB LANEY had a hand in all ten Preston wickets as Shenley Village secured a convincing eight-wicket victory at the weekend.

Laney ended with eight wickets for 48 runs from his 14 overs and then took identical catches at slips to dismiss the final two Preston batsmen.

The home side were all out for 129 and Shenley batsmen Anooj Vadgama (48) and Dion Ebrahim (69 not out) made light work of the total.

Laney set the tone early on as Preston opener Warren Hearne was caught at slips from just the second delivery of the day.

The bowler didn’t have to wait long for his next victim as Preston captain Ashley Catlin was dismissed in Laney’s second over.

He took four wickets in three of his overs and at one point had the exceptional figures of six for nine.

Preston were struggling on 27 for six but Adam Shelley and Mark Waters put on 37 for the seventh-wicket partnership.

Laney finally got rid of Shelley in the 19th over for 22 but Waters went on to top score with 53 from just 42 balls, which included ten fours.

The Shenley bowler’s eighth wicket came courtesy of a great caught-and-bowled and he then completed a fine afternoon at slips, where he took two catches from off-spinner Ebrahim’s only two deliveries.

Shenley made a slow start to their reply as opener Keith Muller was bowled by Anthony Ender in the fourth over.

But after seeing off a good spell by Ender, Vadgama and Ebrahim were rarely troubled and the result was never really in doubt.

Vadgama was caught off the bowling of Barry Turner for 48 but by this time victory was in sight and the game was won in the same over.

Two boundaries from Ebrahim secured an eighth-wicket victory for the visitors, with 41 overs to spare.

Shenley Village are fourth in Division Two and play host to Broxbourne next Saturday.
