The ladies from Borehamwood Bowls Club had a very tense and exciting match in the Watford and District ladies triples.
Irene Allen, Tina Job and Joan Tester were all square after 18 ends against a trio from Langley. But they finally won by two shots on the extra end.
The men suffered a rare defeat at Batchwood Hall in a friendly on three rinks by 53 shots to 64.
The only winning rink for Borehamwood being George Gable, Dan Higgon and Jim Townsend skipped by Arthur Muir who won 24-20.
The second round of the Watford and District pairs saw Dave Middleditch and Dickie Daniels complete a comprehensive win over a pair from Abbotts Langley by 30 shots to 13.
In the first round of the ladies county singles Irene Allen overcame Marion Hedger of Hatfield in a closely contested match by 21-19, and Margaret Moseley last year's champion of Hertfordshire won the first two rounds against June Boosey of Hatfield by 21-10 and J Hawes of Hatfield 21-4 respectively. Borehamwood men lost their unbeaten record in the Watford and District league when they visited Croxley Guild and went down by 57 shots to 81 with all three rinks losing.
The following day a mixed team travelled the short distance to Harperbury to play in the annual cup event between the two clubs over two legs. This first and away leg was a triples on five rinks which was won by Harperbury by 91 shots to 67.
Borehamwood had just one winning rink with Harry Dimes and Dave Middleditch skipped by Joan Tester winning 17-11 and one drawn rink made up of Ivy Eagles and John Tester skipped by Peter Job who shared the honours 14-14.
