Belstone 3 Broadfields Harrow 2 . . .
Champions Cup semi-final . . .
After winning a semi-final last week, Belstone were aiming to reach the second final of a potential three this season.
They went into the game without top goalscorer Steve Quinn and with a few other defensive injuries, but were boosted by the return from injury of Billy Sentance, Tom Merritt and John Beschizza.
A defensive error let in a Harrow forward, who slotted the ball past the onrushing Rob Blackburne to take an unexpected lead. Belstone nearly equalized, but the Harrow keeper tipped over a Tom Merritt volley from just inside the area.
The scores were back level just before half-time, when Nick Turner bundled in a scrappy goal, after Phil Merritt's flick from a corner.
The second half saw Belstone start slowly again, and Harrow regained the lead within five minutes. Poor marking at a corner allowed a free header from six yards, which squirmed across the line just inside the post amid Kevin Yule's best efforts to clear.
Manager Joe Sheridan then reshuffled the team, taking both strikers Matt Cole and Mark Blackburne off, and introducing Jamie Arthur up front. James Smithson came on into midfield to allow Nick Turner to go up front.
Dan Cornoc came on for Billy Hunter down the left and Phil Merritt pushed forward into midfield.
The changes seemed to work, with Belstone dominating play. Jamie Arthur robbed a Harrow defender and drew out the keeper before laying the ball across to Nick Turner, who didn't connect properly and shot wide of the empty goal.
With 20 minutes to go, Belstone were level. Nick Turner flicked on Kevin Yule's long ball to put Jamie Arthur through on goal. Arthur pulled away from his defender and coolly slotted the ball under the keeper.
Ten minutes later, Arthur struck again. Captain Chris Ingham's free kick picked Arthur out, who hit a first-time volley into the corner of the net to send Belstone into the final.
With a potential 13 games left, Belstone are still chasing the league and three cups for a clean sweep of the Harrow League honours.
This Sunday, Belstone face St Nicholas in the quarter final of the Jack Walker Cup, which is followed by the Premier Cup Final on May 1 at Harefield United FC, when Broadfields United will be the opponents.
