Kabongo Tshimanga’s excellent season continued as he scored the only goal in Boreham Wood’s 1-0 win away at Maidenhead United on Saturday.
The 22-year-old notched his 18th National League goal of the season after 22 minutes, while Wood finished the game with 10 men after two quick yellows for goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore.
Luke Garrard made one change to the side that drew away at Barnet last week as Kieran Murtagh came in for David Stephens, who dropped to the bench.
Tshimanga missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring when Matt Rhead’s downward header found him virtually on the line, but he was unable to guide the ball home with his chest.
The striker made up for the miss shortly after, though, firing home the only goal of the contest after Taye Ashby-Hammond could only divert Femi Ilesanmi’s effort into his path.
Wood were close to doubling their lead midway through the second half when Marsh struck an effort on goal, but Ashby-Hammond was equal to it and palmed away.
Maidenhead began to push for a leveller late on but both Odysseus Alfa and Josh Kelly were denied by Ashmore.
The Wood stopper, though, would not finish the game. After receiving a yellow for time wasting on 87 minutes, a second caution four minutes later saw him dismissed, with Marsh coming off for the final few minutes so Grant Smith could cover in goal.
Wood held on for the points, though, and they sit fourth in the table ahead of the visit of Torquay United to Meadow Park this Saturday.
