Boreham Wood moved up to third in the National League after a 1-0 win over Yeovil Town on Saturday.
Top-scorer Kabongo Tshimanga scored the decisive goal to send Wood into the top three, behind runaway leaders Harrogate Town and Barrow.
An uninspiring first half saw Wood go the closest when an effort from Piero Mingoia hit Tshimanga and flew inches over the crossbar.
Seven minutes after the restart, Wood were adamant that they should have had a penalty when Tshimanga’s cross appeared to strike an arm, but referee Carl Brook waved away their appeals.
Former Mansfield Town and Lincoln City striker Matt Rhead was introduced for his debut with 22 minutes to go, and while he was not involved in the build-up, Wood went ahead six minutes later as Tshimanga latched onto Tom Champion’s long ball forward and finished past the on-rushing Stuart Nelson.
The Glovers upped the tempo in the remaining minutes but did little to test Nathan Ashmore in the Wood goal, and he kept his clean sheet to help his side hold on for the points.
Wood are now third on goal difference, level on points with fourth-placed FC Halifax Town but they do have a game in hand on the Shaymen.
Next up for Wood is a trip to Aldershot Town tomorrow night, kicking off at 7.45pm.
