Boreham Wood sprung a surprise in the National League on Saturday as they beat table-toppers FC Halifax Town 2-0 away from home.
Tom Champion and Adam McDonnell scored a goal in each half to move Wood up to 11th in the table and get them back to winning ways after their midweek defeat last Tuesday.
Wood top scorer Kabongo Tshimanga squandered a good early opportunity to give his side the lead when he could only fire straight at Shaymen goalkeeper Sam Johnson.
A minute before half-time, though, the visitors did take the lead when Sorba Thomas crossed for Champion to head in his first goal of the season.
Nathan Ashmore produced to fine stops in the second half to prevent Liam McAlinden and Dayle Southwell from pulling Halifax level.
McDonnell then extended Boreham Wood’s lead to pile on the misery for the league leaders, curling in an excellent free-kick to open his account for the club.
Jeff King struck the post for the hosts in a late response, but Wood held on for the clean sheet.
Next up for Luke Garrard’s side is the start of their FA Cup adventure for the season as they take on fellow National League side Torquay United away from home, kicking off at 3pm.
