Boreham Wood have added three new players to their ranks, sealing the signatures of Kabongo Tshimanga, Piero Mingoia and Adam McDonnell.
Tshimanaga joins on a two-year deal from Oxford City, where he scored 37 goals in all competitions last season. Meanwhile, attacking midfielder Mingoia returns to the club after leaving Accrington Stanley by mutual consent last week, while McDonnell, a midfielder signs from Aldershot Town.
21-year-old Tshimanga started his career with MK Dons, coming through the youth ranks and making his senior debut at the club in a 4-3 FA Cup win over Port Vale as a substitute for Benik Afobe.
He spent the majority of his Dons career away on loan, including non-league sides such as Aldershot, Chelmsford City, Corby Town, Nuneaton Town and Chesham United before having a spell at Icelandic outfit Throttur Reykjavik.
A further, unsuccessful spell at Yeovil Town ensued before he joined Boston United on a permanent deal, scoring eight times in 34 games in his solitary season.
Oxford City then snapped him up, and he scored 24 goals in 42 games for the side, including a hat-trick away at Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.
Speaking to the club’s website, manager Luke Garrard said: “Kabby is a player that really excited myself and the chairman and we both felt at this stage of his development that he really does need to play and not sit warming the bench at say a Football League club. This is a signing of intent for our football club and along with some other great bits of business we’ve done, gives me good reason to look forward to the coming season.”
Meanwhile, Mingoia spent a loan spell at the Wood while he was with Watford as a youngster but failed to make the grade at the Hornets and joined Accrington Stanley upon his release in 2013.
It proved to be a fruitful move for the Enfield-born player as he made just shy of 120 appearances for Stanley in a three-year spell, scoring 12 goals along the way.
He left the club in 2016 to join Cambridge United and scored five times in 64 outings for the U’s, but returned north to Stanley for the start of last season.
However, he appeared just four times and spent most of 2019 on loan at fellow League Two side Morecambe, playing 16 times.
Speaking to the club website, Mingoia said: “I’m very excited to be back at Boreham Wood.
“After speaking to the people at the club, I was sold in terms of what they are aiming to achieve and hopefully I can contribute in a big way.
“It’s an ambitious club and that was important to me going somewhere where people push their standards as high as possible.”
In addition, 22-year-old McDonnell joined Ipswich Town in 2014 and went on to make nine outings for the Championship side.
He spent the last two seasons in the National League with Aldershot and scored eight goals for them in 2018/19. Initially it wasn’t enough to save them from relegation, but they have since had a reprieve after Gateshead’s failed appeal against National League expulsion.
Wood manager Garrard told the club’s website: “Adam is a player I’ve liked for a while and when it was made clear to me by his representatives that he was available, I knew I wanted him at Meadow Park. He is at a great age to develop, he’s as ambitious as I am and I think he’ll fit in well with the style of football I want to play and group of players and staff I’m putting in place.”
