Thousands of people were feeling blue this weekend when they dressed up Hindu deity Krishna to mark his birthday.
Children and adults came together and celebrated the Janmashtami Festival at Bhaktivedanta Manor, Hillfield Lane, Aldenham, on Friday and Sunday.
The ‘largest Hindu gathering outside India’ provided a colourful taste of the mystic country, with stage shows, vibrant costumes and enchanting music.
And children painted their faces blue, carrying flutes and wearing peacocks in their hair, dressing like Krishna as part of the festive spirit.
1,500 volunteers worked day and night for a month prior to the event, some working 24 hours a day to prepare the free vegetarian meals that were on offer at the festival.
Temple President Srutidharma das said: “Janmashtami at Bhaktivedanta Manor was a resounding
success. There were hoards of happy faces and everyone I spoke to had a fantastic time.
"Janmashami at Bhaktivedanta Manor is a time of joy and happiness with sincere devotion to God.
“A special thank you to all the volunteers who gave so much time and effort, without whom this festival would not be possible.”
