PUPILS at a primary school enjoyed a special lesson on Hinduism today as part of their Religious Education.
Year four at Woodlands Primary School, in Alban Crescent, Borehamwood, were taught about aspects of the Hindu religion such as its culture, practices and beliefs.
Children were also given the opportunity to dress up in traditional clothes, with boys dressing as Hindu Warriors and girls in saris.
Year four teacher Lilly Learmonth said: “I think it’s been a brilliant day. We live in a multicultural society and it’s important for the children to realise that people are different and that being different can be a good thing.”
The visit, which was from lunchtime to the end of the day at 3pm, is part of the pupil’s Religious Education lessons, but will also form a part of their English classes where they will be writing stories about other cultures.
Guest speaker Indriyesh Das, said: “It’s important for children to engage with a topic. You can only teach so much with a book, but when pupils experience it hands on, then they get so much more out of it.
“I think they all enjoyed it and I could tell they all really engaged with what I was saying.”
