HERTFORDSHIRE Police Authority, the organisation responsible for funding and managing the county’s police force, has elected a new chairman.

Councillor David Lloyd (Con/Bridgewater), deputy leader of Hertfordshire County Council, was elected unopposed at the annual meeting of the Authority on Friday.

He replaces Stuart Nagler, who announced that he was standing down earlier this month. Mr Nagler was elected as vice-chairman of the Authority.

Councillor Lloyd said: “Hertfordshire Constabulary performs well and the county has low rates of crime but we must ensure that these benefits are felt by all of those who live and work here.

“I will work hard to ensure that the police become even more responsive to the needs of their communities whether that is through robust tackling of anti-social behaviour or increased targeting of drivers who speed in dangerous locations.”
