I was pleased to learn from your paper that the Ark Theatre is to get a new manager. (‘Ambitious for The Ark’, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, April 29.) I would like to wish Tom Lagen every success with his plans for it.

I say this because, since the Ark was opened in 2009, I have not heard nor seen much in the way of promotions for it. In fact there have been more adverts posted around the town about other venues outside Borehamwood, like Wyllyotts in Potters Bar and the Radlett Centre.

Signposting of the new theatre seems non-existent. In fact, when I passed the main entrance to the car park for the Ark, which is off Elstree Way, I saw only a sign for the Civic Centre and the Venue swimming pool. The only sign I could see for the Ark was over the gateway to the theatre itself, which looked wery small and insignificant and would be almost impossible to see from the main road, especially at night as it does not appear to the illuminated.

One thing, however, that is noticeable in Elstree Way is the Ibis Hotel, standing on the very ground that was originally earmarked for a modern theatre that would have catered for all kinds of events but was sadly not built.

Surely in a town where there is little in the way of cultural entertainment, and an ever increasing population with another 85 dwellings being built nearby, it is up to the local authority to promote this theatre as much as it can by dealing with these issues?
