THE LEADER of the Hertsmere Labour group has said she is “overjoyed” at gaining an extra seat in today’s election results.
Richard Butler has been elected to represent Borehamwood Kenilworth ward after defeating Conservative Penny Swallow by more than 200 votes.
Councillor Ann Harrison (Labour, Cowley Hill)said: “It was a very good result in Kenilworth. It is very important to increase the opposition against the Tory party.
“There are no Liberal Democrats now unfortunately but we will strive to question as much as we can.
“In terms of control there is an overwhelming majority but we have started building up numbers so it is onwards and upwards for us.
“We’ve retained Ernie Butler’s seat in Cowley Hill, which is obviously great as he works very hard for the area.
“It’s been an exciting afternoon but I have to say I hate the waiting. I wish we had done the count overnight.
“I didn’t really sleep last night but I was up waiting for the national results to come through, which we have done well in.”
