The parishes of Elstree and Borehamwood have reunited after 100 years, following permission from the Queen and the Privy Council.
St Nicholas Church in High Street, Elstree, has joined the Borehamwood Parish that includes St Michael's Church, Borehamwood; Holy Cross Church, Borehamwood; and All Saints Church, Shenley.
Reverend Richard Leslie, Vicar at St Michael's Church, said the new parish of Elstree & Borehamwood will prove beneficial for both the community and the Church of England.
The benefits will include: "Better use of resources, better use of skills and improved support from each other," said Rev Leslie.
"It's just about working together as a team rather than individuals and we meet every week to plan work on the enlarged parish.
"Borehamwood was a part of Elstree Parish until they were separated 100 years ago but now we're back together."
The present St Nicholas Church, which is just over 150 years old became part of the new parish of Elstree and Borehamwood on April 1. A church has stood on the site since 1188.
The division of parish boundaries is governed by the Privy Council, headed by the Queen, and ancient regulations continue to give the council final authority concerning the mapping of these boundaries.
