There will be fun for all the family when Borehamwood Fire Station holds its special 50th Anniversary Open Day on Saturday.

Famous movie star Janette Scott opened the station in 1954, making it Britain's most glamourous and unusual station.

Since then firefighters have manned it around the clock for five decades, keeping the people of Borehamwood and Elstree safe from harm.

The open day will give people a chance to look around the station, talk to firefighters about their jobs and how to apply, and watch various displays. Meanwhile Borehamwood Police Station, a few hundred yards further along Elstree Way, will also hold its open day on Saturday.

Visitors will be able to find out more about the work of the police, and see various attractions in the station. The Ambulance Station will also offer a host of attractions for visitors.
