Children celebrated 50 years of Saffron Green School this week with a special fancy dress day and a party.
Almost all the pupils and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite characters from books, and enjoyed a fun magic show in the afternoon.
The Nicoll Way primary school opened in 1954, and to celebrate 50 years of teaching Borehamwood's youngsters, it has planned a series of events including a Grand Jubilee Fete for adults and children next month.
Headteacher Deborah Purrett said this week's Children's Party had been great fun: "It was wonderful, the children all dressed up and most of them really went to town with their costumes."
The children's party was the first of two big celebrations of the anniversary. At the Grand Jubilee Fete on Sunday, July 11, there will be singing from the school choir, gymnastic displays, country dancing, face painting, a coconut shy, plate smashing, pony rides, a bouncy castle and an assault course for older children organised by the Army Cadet Force. A line of trees will be planted to mark the occasion.
