Nearly one thousand people turned out for the annual Shenley Fete and Carnival on Sunday helping to keep alive an old village tradition.
The large number of people attending on the day "was absolutely amazing for a village fete", said Shenley Fete and Carnival committee chairman Paul Racibowski, adding: "It was very successful and definitely a popular event."
A carnival procession provided a colourful start to proceedings at 12.30pm, leaving Harris Lane Playing Fields and touring around the village watched by people lining the streets.
Attractions included a fun dog show, Morris men, go-karts, a bucking bronco, a bouncy castle, an inflatable slide and much more.
There were many entrants in the dog show which included rosettes for the most scruffy dog, the waggiest tail and the best looking dog and owner.
Forty stalls, from local groups, charities and those selling refreshments were at the event, which proved to be a bumper day out for all the family.
As usual, there was an area set aside in the centre of the playing fields for children to compete in a variety of races.
"The fete is for children really and we hold the event to keep alive an old village tradition," said Mr Racibowski, adding: "It's always hard work but well worth it in the end."
He thanked volunteers for their support and Shenley businesses for their generosity in donating prizes for the fete's Grand Raffle, which included a microwave oven.
He said the event will take place again next year because it was well supported.
"People that used to live in Shenley come back for the fete and some help with organisation," he said.
Mayor of Hertsmere Eddy Roach officially opened the fete and judged the entries in the parade.
Funds raised on the day will go towards keeping the fete going in the future as well as to good causes in the area.
