Shenley Road is set to become a haven of horticulture after the town and borough councils put new flowers and plants into the shopping street's planters.

Last year the town and borough councils both agreed to put money into refurbishing the planters, along the busy shopping street, to give Borehamwood town centre a boost.

And earlier this month councillors came along to lend a helping hand, including Eileen Stanley, who spearheaded the campaign to bring some colour back to Shenley Road.

"I am very pleased indeed, and I am grateful to Aaron Niblett from the borough council, who designed the planters."

There are 29 planters alongside the shops in Shenley Road, which were built several years ago as part of an effort to make the town centre attractive. Over the years they had been neglected, and eventually ended up full of bottles, cans, cigarette butts and dead plants.

Now they have been given a new lease of life, and councillors hope this will lead to people taking more pride in Shenley Road, and a better image for sunny Borehamwood.
