Hertfordshire Police were this week assessed as a good force by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC).
The force was assessed on 16 categories, which can be graded excellent, good, fair or poor it received one excellent, fourteen goods, one fair and no poor grades.
Chairman of the Hertfordshire Police Authority Ian Laidlaw-Dickson thanked the police staff and officers for their hard work but added that despite the good result the force would not rest on its laurels.
A spokesman for the HMIC said: "The force is performing to a good standard but there are still some important challenges to address if improvement is to be sustained.
"We have taken account of the recruitment and retention issues experienced over the last few years and we have commended the Chief Constable and his team for their resolute action taken in restructuring the organisation."
