Road tax cheats throughout Hertfordshire will be caught, police have warned this week.
With more than 30,000 people throughout the county dodging road tax, Hertfordshire Constabulary have joined forces with the DVLA as part of a major clampdown which will be starting this month.
Using cutting edge digital technology, Stingray cameras will automatically read the number plates of passing vehicles and check instantaneously if road tax has been paid.
When caught cheats will be required to pay back all money owed from the date the vehicle was licensed or face fines of up to £1,000.
A spokesman for the DVLA said: "There is now no hiding place for those who think they are beyond the law."
