More than 100 people arrived at Three Ways Community Centre last weekend to take part in a 1940s themed D-Day anniversary party.
The event held at the community centre in Arundel Drive, Borehamwood paid tribute to the World War Two servicemen who landed on the Normandy beaches 60 years ago.
Everyone dressed up in 1940's themed clothes and organisers Cathie Ward and Joyce Dickens cooked a traditional pie and mash dinner with liquor for all 100 guests Mrs Ward said: "It was the best night the Three Ways has seen for a long time there was a great turnout and the atmosphere was magnificent."
President of the Three Ways Tom Rumble who went to Normandy with South Staffordshire Regiment said the anniversary party was organised as a mark of respect.
"It's important to remember the D-Day landings and what it meant for our country.
"Having a party like ours highlights what went on all those years ago."
Councillor Frank Ward, chairman of the Three Ways, said the event went very well.
"One again the Three Ways has demonstrated its commitment to the community by making a special tribute to those who sacrificed everything in order to defend our way of life," he said, adding that due to the success of the D-Day party, more events will be held throughout the year.
