In your May 15 edition you published a letter about the future of the open land on Woodcock Hill.
Since then we my wife and I have received a questionnaire from WHOSE!. We have lived in Boreham Wood since 1939 and have witnessed the relentless pressure to build more and more houses here.
We can remember when from Carrington Avenue to Tennison Avenue was farmland. In those days Woodcock Hill was used by local people during the winter if there had been some snow.
If you had a good sledge you could get right to the fence before the allotments; it was the best hill for sledging for miles around. That was before the houses in Byron Avenue were built.
When we walk along Carrington Avenue it soon becomes apparent that the people who live in that area do not really cherish it. If something is not done about the land around Woodcock Hill it will be completely covered in garden rubbish, scrub, brambles, and stinging nettles.
The crux of this letter is that there is nothing new about more houses being built in Boreham Wood. To the list of land covered in houses will soon be added the sites of the schools recently closed. If Woodcock Hill could become a park or a proper village green then that would be excellent. However it does appear that that is not what WHOSE is really about. They just want Woodcock Hill to stay as it is. However the best of luck to the campaign, I look forward to seeing the first picnic.
