Being the wife of a councillor, I hear all sorts of weird conversations but the main topic of conversation seems to be the state of the streets, the fly-tipping.
I can't tell you how much time my husband, Cllr Rodney Saunders, spends on these subjects.
Everything is blamed on The Council'. But is it the council that is throwing beer cans and broken beer bottles in the street? Is it the council who unwrap the sandwiches and throw the plastic wrappers in the street? Is it the council that discards cigarette packets and chocolate wrappers out of car windows?
Is it the council that comes in the dead of night and dumps rubbish like old settees, fridges, microwaves, mattresses and black sacks full of rubbish on the country roads?
No it is not. It is the uncaring, untidy, irresponsible members of the public who do all this.
It is these people who teach their children, by their own actions, to discard their rubbish on their way to and from school not the council.
The council found it necessary to set up a special scheme called Operation Eyesore to cope with all this dreadful mess and where do you think the money is coming from to pay for this extra service? from your Council Tax. If you see someone dumping, or fly-tipping try to get their car registration number.
Perhaps a call from one of our constabulary might put an end to this public nuisance which is not only costing us money but ruining the lovely countryside in which we are privileged to live.
