A greater part of this year has seen me working a new book about the life of Elstree-based film & TV supporting artist, Paul Wilder. And I am pleased to say that this new book – entitled Paul Wilder: My Quest for TV Fame – is about to be published.
Wilder always had it firmly fixed in his mind that he wanted to be on TV, but realised that he didn't have any specific talent. By his own admission he couldn't sing, couldn't play an instrument or act. However, once he had contrived ways of appearing on TV, his quest for TV fame really began in earnest. And now Paul is keen to share his story with other would-be TV stars.
In the early part of this year, having become acquainted with each other after writing our respective Big Brother-related blogs for the website of the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, Wilder asked if I would help him to co-write his life story. I jumped at the chance.
Various trips down to Borehamwood by train then followed in order that I could tape a selection of interviews with Paul at his home for the book. This material ultimately became the basis for the publication.
In this new book the reader will find themselves be taken on a light-hearted journey as Wilder describes his numerous prolific game show and quiz show appearances (including two bans he received during the process). Paul also reveals how his enthused quest has led him to appearing as a supporting artist on some of UK's top TV programmes, including: EastEnders, The Bill and Holby City.
Along the way, Wilder also reveals the eclectic array of celebrities that he has worked with or encountered - Freema Agyeman, Paul Daniels, Connie Fisher, Des O'Connor, Jonathan Ross and Jerry Springer - to name just a few.
This new book, which includes a special foreword by EastEnders’ actor Derek Martin (Charlie Slater), is being published by SMP Publishers on Thursday 1st October 2009. The same date will also see a special book launch event being held at Elstree Studios.
Working with Paul Wilder has been a real pleasure. It has been a great journey writing the book, setting up his websites and helping him with all that with the various aspects goes into preparing a book for publication. I hope I get the opportunity to work on future books for Wilder and his company very soon.
