I am now making the final preparations to 'shoot' my new short film at Elstree Studios.
As previously mentioned in my blog, my new film - entitled Resentment - is set to feature Vicki Michelle ('Allo 'Allo!, Emmerdale) and her actress daughter Louise Michelle.
Resentment will be filmed at the Borehamwood-based Elstree Studios on Sunday 4th October 2009. The completed film will then be broadcast on Information TV2 (Sky 167) during 2010.
So far my most-recent film, Amy, has been shown around thirty times on the channel! I hope Resentment will also be broadcast around the same number of times.
My last minute tasks currently include: establishing what Louise (Michelle) will wear exactly for the wedding scenes, ensuring that the flowers for the wedding scenes are confirmed and borrowing two wedding rings!
This is not the first time I have included wedding scenes in one of my short films. A previous film that I made for cable TV in 1998 included a full village church wedding complete with over a hundred extras!
This new film, however, will see the registry office wedding scenes being filmed in one of the rooms at Elstree Studios. The said room was previously part of the old first floor restaurant in the Andrew Mitchell Building where many a star dined, including: Sir Michael Caine, Harrison Ford and Sir Roger Moore.
All of the actor and extra roles in Resentment (thirty-six in total) have now all been cast. And that is a huge relief! I have even started sleeping again at nights as a result!
I have booked the crew, the camera, sound & lighting equipment and our hotel rooms. If only people realised just exactly how much has to be organised – and paid for!
This year marks the twentieth year that I have been working on my own arts projects; and it is fourteen years since I first started making films. Between 1995 and 2000 I made an extensive selection of film & TV programmes for a Leicester-based cable TV channel. I then went on to make short films which I screened at an arts centre in Leicester. I even staged my own film festivals there.
My main ambition, however, was always to make films at Elstree Studios. And so I am over the moon to have been able to have achieved this ambition! But thank goodness for all those nice and supportive people (you know who you are!) who have helped me along the way.
What I wanted to prove is that you don’t have to have the same high budgets as George Lucas to make a film. And I have proved this many times - even during a credit crunch!
Another of my aims has always been to give as many people as possible the chance to work on a film either in-front or behind the camera. And I am proud to say I have also achieved this aim as well.
You see, it is possible to make your dreams come true. But I have had to work very hard and forgo many things along the way to make my dreams a reality. But it has all been worthwhile.
And my future ambitions? One of my ambitions is to film scenes in one of the historic three-surviving stages at Elstree Studios. Fingers crossed this will happen one day...
Meanwhile my quest to find two people to work as production assistants on Resentment has proved half successful so far! So, if are you are aged 16+ and are interested in gaining practical experience as the other production assistant on my new film, then please contact me (Paul Burton) for more information via email: paulburton73@hotmail.co.uk.
In the meantime it’s back to the organising! Now, I wonder where I can borrow two wedding rings from? Any ideas?
