Mayor of London Boris Johnson taped a cameo appearance for an upcoming episode of EastEnders at BBC Elstree in Borehamwood last Friday.
The short storyline in the popular BBC soap will begin when Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor) discovers that Johnson is paying a fleeting visit to Walford.
Despite being frustrated at not initially being able to catch a glimpse of the Mayor, Peggy suddenly finds herself coming face-to-face with the man in question when he pops into the Albert Square-based pub.
Despite telling local residents that she would give Boris a piece of her mind if she ever met him, Mitchell actually becomes captivated by the Mayor when she meets him over the bar. Indeed, viewers will apparently see the character turning on the old charm and flirting with Johnson during his fleeting visit.
I wonder what Archie (Larry Lamb) will have to say about that?
Windsor, of course, has worked with an eclectic mix of actors, actresses and performers at the Borehamwood-based studio complex in the past under both its ATV and BBC ownership days - but I can't ever remember her sharing a scene with a politician before!
The BBC has announced that the episode featuring Boris Johnson will be shown on both BBC1 and BBC3 in a few months time.
