Todd Carty (who played Wendy's on-screen son, Mark Fowler), Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell), Pam St. Clement (Pat Evans), Lacey Turner, Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell), Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale)and Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann) packed St Mary's Church in Marylebone Road in London.
Filming on EastEnders at BBC Elstree was greatly-reduced yesterday so that cast and crew members could pay their respects to Wendy, who played Pauline Fowler in the soap.
Fern Britton, Judith Chalmers and Paul O'Grady also attended the funeral as did Wendy's former Are You Being Served? co-stars: Trevor Bannister, Mollie Sugden and Frank Thornton. Wendy's former Dad's Army and EastEnders' colleague, Ian Lavender, also paid his respects to Richard at the service.
Wendy was very much in my thoughts yesterday. The former EastEnders' star was very kind and helpful to me on more than one occasion and because of this - and having spent a life-time watching her on TV - I feel like I have lost a friend. I'm sure the many other people who were also lucky enough to come in to contact with Wendy, even for just a short while, feel the same. She was a very special lady.
RIP, Wendy.
