Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that his next of kin have been informed of his death and his family is being supported by officers.
Police added that his death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
When police appealed for more information on December 30, they stressed their concern for Mr O’Connell’s whereabouts.
Sergeant Louis Blacker said in a statement: “We are re-appealing for any information about Michael’s whereabouts.
“He has no phone, no cash and has not returned home.
“There have also been no confirmed sightings of him since he left his home address at 3.30pm on 29 December, and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.”
