Plans for double yellow lines in Aldenham spark 'dismay'

The new parking restrictions for Church Lane in Aldenham are being explored by Hertfordshire County Council.

But the idea has reportedly left locals unhappy and Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden says he has urged the council to “reconsider”.

Mr Dowden said: “A number of residents have been in touch to raise their dismay over proposals to introduce double yellow lines along Church Lane.

“I know for many in the area, St John the Baptist Church is the heartbeat of the community.

“The traffic regulation order could affect locals on a day-to-day basis, potentially inhibiting access for the elderly and vulnerable.”

Mr Dowden’s office says the council’s plans are an attempt to improve and quality and safety of bus services in this area.

The Conservative MP continued: “Whilst I appreciate the concerns over the smooth and safe running of local bus services, I share the concerns of my constituents over the detrimental effect the proposals could have.

“I will continue to engage with the council and have urged them to work with both the church community and local residents to come to an amicable solution.”

The council is said to be proposing an experimental traffic regulation order lasting for six months.
