The county's police authority has launched a campaign to find three people who are passionate about shaping policing and want to make Hertfordshire a safer county.
Hertfordshire police authority, comprising 17 members, is the watchdog for policing across the county. It represents the communities of Hertfordshire by setting the priorities, targets and budget for Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Members of the authority are responsible for engaging with the police, local bodies and the public to find out how policing can be improved.
Authority chairman Ian Laidlaw-Dickson said: "It is a fascinating, challenging and rewarding role, which offers local people an opportunity to improve the way policing services are delivered.
"It requires strong commitment and the ability to represent the views of all our diverse communities."
The post is voluntary, although expenses, including travel, child and other care costs are paid, along with allowances starting at about £5,000.
Appointments will start on October 1 and will run until March 31 2013. Members will be expected to work at least one day a week, although many members do more.
An information pack is available from herts-police-authority.org.uk, by calling 01992 556600 or by emailing Elaine.leonard.hpa@ herts.pnn.police.uk The closing date for applications is June 6.
