A charity that helps people affected by crime in Hertsmere has launched a telephone service for victims.
Victim Support Hertfordshire will call the majority of victims of crimes within two days of them contacting police. Support staff will then assess their needs so they get the right support.
Teresa Salmon, the charity's community manager, said: "These changes will ensure victims have someone to speak to soon after the crime has happened, reducing feelings of isolation and showing them support is available."
The charity's face-to-face support by trained volunteers will also continue.
Hertsmere's Mayor, Councillor Martin Saunders who attended the launch event last Tuesday evening, said: "It's great that people from Hertsmere give up their time to support victims of crime in their community. I hope more will volunteer."
Victims can call 01707 354 626 or email vcu@victim supportherts.org.uk For more information on volunteering, call Ms Salomon on 0750 800 4682 or email teresa.salomon@ victimsupportherts.org.uk
