Children at Borehamwood's Parkside School enjoyed a lesson in the Japanese art of drumming on Friday.
Year 5 and 6 pupils at the school, in Aycliffe Road, were treated to a session of Taiko with Joe Cooper of Hertfordshire Music Service.
The art-form has its roots in Japanese court music, theatre, the martial arts and Buddhist sacred music. It was first established in 1951 by Daihachi Oguchi.
Headteacher Julie Muncey said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this disciplined activity. It has been very rewarding to see skills such as listening, teamwork and performance being developed in such an enjoyable and creative way.
"The children have been talking enthusiastically about their experiences and are looking forward to working with the drums next year."
