Following last week's letter asking about the progress of the community toilet scheme for Borehamwood (Bogged down', April 11), I thought residents may wish to hear that an update on the matter came to last Wednesday's executive meeting at Hertsmere Borough Council.
The head of housing and health confirmed a full report would be presented to the next executive on May 14, which would outline not just the proposals for the community toilets scheme but how much it would cost and what the plans were to roll out such a scheme across Hertsmere.I can assure residents that Borehamwood is intended to be the pilot area for the scheme. It is envisaged that funding for the scheme would be in the order of £40,000.We are planning to run the pilot scheme over a 12-month period and then, if successful, roll it out across the rest of the borough.I believe this service is one that we need in our towns and the extra few weeks this has taken to investigate and cost sensibly shows that we are committed to ensuring a successful community toilet scheme in Borehamwood from the outset.Councillor Jean HeywoodEnvironment portfolio holder
