The Borehamwood detachment of the Army Cadet Force has moved into a new home ahead of its 150th anniversary next year.

The purpose-built site in Rossington Avenue, which will be officially opened on July 13, houses both the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps. Since its inception in 1942, the ACF has been based at a number of locations around Borehamwood. After leaving a site in Manor Way in 2002 following attacks of vandalism and anti-social behaviour, the group had paraded at Saffron Green School, in Nicoll Way, before moving in to the new site. Major Peter Barlow, executive officer of the ACF in Hertfordshire, said: "We are really grateful to the Ministry of Defence for providing the £250,000 that went towards building this great facility. "It is a huge relief we are no longer living out of a suitcase. We are hoping the new facility will attract boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18 in the Borehamwood area to join us." The ACF is a national voluntary youth organisation. It is sponsored by the army and provides military, adventure and community activities. Its aim is to inspire young people to achieve success in life with a spirit of service to the Queen, their country and their local community, and to develop qualities required of a good citizen. Cadets can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme alongside normal training. ACF Borehamwood parade times are 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Tuesdays, and 7pm to 9pm on Fridays.
