Mayor of Hertsmere Councillor Martin Saunders attended an event on Thursday to celebrate a charity donation of £1,000 given to a riding school in Elstree.

Penniwells Riding School for the Disabled, in Edgwarebury Lane, received the grant from the Hertfordshire Community Foundation. The school provides children and adults with the chance to ride horses and take part in competitions across the country.Mr Saunders said: "It is great that Penniwells has received the money. The visit went very well and it was interesting to see what they do there."They have to rely on volunteers to run the centre so it is good they are supported in this way."Trix Summerfield, chairman of the riding school, said: "It was a very successful visit with the mayor. The money that we have received is to help with paying for members to travel to competitions around the country. "This year two of our young riders did extremely well in regional competitions and we hope to take them to the national level."We have around 120 riders a week that attend the school so we are always very busy."The place is run on a huge amount of volunteers and we are always looking for people."
