Borehamwood’s first splash park has opened with youngsters already having plenty of fun in the summer sun.
The splash zone in Meadow Park was officially unveiled by Hertsmere Borough Council on Friday (August 5) after just under three months of construction.
It includes a number of water features such as 23 in-ground jets and columns of water to run or jump through.
There is also a Hula Spray, which forms a circular water jail, and a number of hydro blasts, including a fountain-like spray in the centre which reaches 3.5 metres high.
Children have already been taking advantage of the splash park amid another week of hot weather.
The mayor of Hertsmere, John Graham, said: “I was delighted to open the new splash zone in Meadow Park for our young people to enjoy. I know this water park has been eagerly awaited and will bring enjoyment to thousands of young people for years to come.
“It’s a fantastic addition to Meadow Park and makes what is already a great park even better.
“We know that many families are experiencing financial difficulties at the moment, so it’s great we can provide a free and fun facility for everyone to enjoy. Bring a picnic and make a day of it.”
There is no need to book to visit the splash park, with it open from 10am-6pm every day.
However, the splash park will close in September and will not reopen again until after the May bank holiday in 2023.
The council has told the Times there are plans to install fencing around the splash park.
The splash park cost £375,000 and is part of a wider £2.2 million investment by the council in Meadow Park.
Phase one saw a toddler and activity play area completed, along with a fitness zone and new bandstand.
The tennis, basketball and multi-use games area courts have also been also resurfaced.
Still to come is a BMX track as well as a cafe and toilets, which is all subject to planning permission.
