A 12-year-old girl was attacked as she walked home from school in Borehamwood.
Police say she was assaulted in the Three Fields area near Aycliffe Road at around 3pm on Monday June 6.
She was approached by two girls, who initially walked past and then turned around.
They then assaulted her and tried to take her mobile phone before leaving in the direction of Gateshead Road.
The bruised 12-year-old, who left the area in the opposite direction, dropped her bag during the attack. When the bag was retrieved, a grey Nike hoodie was missing.
Detective Constable Gemma Haines said: “This appears to be a completely unprovoked assault which has left the victim shaken and with a minor head injury and bruising.
“I am hoping that someone may have seen the incident or has CCTV covering the route that the victim and the offenders would have taken.”
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to email DC Haines at Gemma.haines@herts.police.uk or call 101, quoting crime reference 41/45099/22.
