A decision on whether to build 16 homes on the site of a former stables in Borehamwood has been delayed for a second time.

More than 250 people have opposed plans to demolish the former Cowley Hill Stables building to make way for the new housing development.

The plans by developer Griggs Homes would see four three-bedroom semi-detached houses, four four-bedroom detached houses, and two five-bedroom detached houses built alongside a terrace block of two three-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom apartments.

The terraced block and flats are as affordable homes, while Griggs Homes has said the housing mix is "in-keeping and appropriate to the locality".

However, residents had expressed concerns about building on the green belt, traffic issues and the loss of equestrian leisure facilities.

The plans were submitted in December 2020,  but members voted to defer hearing the application in July 2021 after allegations were made about the applicant contacting one councillor ahead of a planning committee’s meeting.

A decision on the development had been due to be made on Wednesday September 22; however during the meeting it was decided to defer the application once again to allow members to visit the site.

The committee’s chairman Councillor Linda Silver explained arranging a site visit was not possible until after this week’s meeting.

Cllr Silver apologised to members of the public who attended the meeting, but said it was in the interests of the committee to arrange the visit ahead of a decision.

The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for October 14, and it’s unclear whether a visit will be arranged in time for this meeting.
