Young adults launch bereavement charity called 'It's Time'

David Fagan, who lives in Borehamwood, lost his dad Shaun when David was aged just 19.

David, who grew up in Mill Hill, was studying at Loughborough University when his father passed away, but he has remained strong and started his own business and even bought his own home which he lives in with his partner and dog.

Around 45,000 children lose a parent every single year in the UK and David sadly knows first-hand the challenges an event like this can bring.

So in March this year, he and five other founders set about forming It’s Time; a charity launched to provide support to 16-30-year-olds who experience the death of a parent.

On September 5, It’s Time held its first nationwide fundraiser, with more than 400 people taking part in 15km walks across the country, including in Borehamwood and London Colney, and in Mill Hill and Edgware.

Around £10,000 was raised and the money will go towards a range of support including one-to-one interventions, group therapy sessions, online courses, and help guides for educational facilities and employers.

David said: “It was very inspiring to see all the hard work from all of the trustees and myself in action, and to know that we united so many people across the country who have experienced such loss and grief at a pivotal age of life.

“Knowing that the money raised will help young adults steer though such grief is fantastic to be a part of.

“We have so much to come and many fundraisers ahead and lots of people on-board who have volunteered to help us move forward and make a change to quite an overlooked topic.”
