Police have issued a warning after a spate of catalytic converter thefts.
Hertfordshire Constabulary says it is aware of seven thefts that took place in Borehamwood and Shenley overnight on Wednesday September 8.
Catalytic converters contain precious metals and are attractive to thieves due to its high metal value.
Offences typically occur during the night but some happen in broad daylight. If a catalytic converter is stolen, it renders a car almost undrivable and can be costly to repair and replace.
Following the thefts in the local area, police are encouraging motorists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around parked vehicles
Hertsmere Chief Inspector Mark Bilsdon said: "Tackling vehicle crime remains a priority for us in Hertsmere and we are carrying out additional patrols, targeting hotspot areas and working on intelligence to target offenders.
"As part of this we need your help. Please remain vigilant and if you see anyone acting suspiciously around a parked vehicle, particularly where people are trying to get under vehicles, call 999 so that we can get officers there as soon as possible.
"As part of the constabulary’s response to this type of crime, Operation Feline aims to help drivers protect their catalytic converters and to deter thieves.
"As part of the campaign, a number of garages across the county are offering a free security marking service and I’d urge residents to take up this offer."
