Borehamwood's biggest summer event has been cancelled due to rain.
Families Day at Meadow Park, the culmination of Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council's Civic Festival, was due to go ahead between 12-4pm today (Saturday August 7).
But with rain forecast throughout the day, the decision has been made to cancel the event.
Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council councillor Pat Strack informed residents on social media that families day has been cancelled “with regret”.
She said: “Conditions at the Park are already poor. It is pouring with rain and predicted to rain throughout the day with possible thunder and lightning.
“The food suppliers have pulled out due to the rain and not wishing to get stuck in the mud.
“EBTC could not ensure that the field would not be damaged by vehicles entering the park, nor could they ensure safety of anyone attending.
“10 stall holders have withdrawn.”
The event, which is one of the biggest community events on the calender, has been away for a year due to the pandemic.
Cllr Strack added: "I hope you all understand that this decision has not been taken likely as so much hard work has taken place to have a festival event against all odds."
