Police have confirmed an elderly man has died in a crash near London Colney this morning.
The crash happened just before 5.30am at the London Colney roundabout on the A414 and involved one vehicle – a black Mercedes.
The driver, a man aged in his 70s, passed away at the scene.
His family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
Police have launched an investigation following the fatal road traffic collision.
Sergeant Sam Cordingley, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit (BCH RPU), said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of the driver at this difficult time.
"We are working to establish the cause of the collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed it to please come forward and speak to us.

“It happened on a main arterial route which many people use to travel to and from work. If you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle and you were travelling on the A414 in the direction of Hatfield at the time of the collision, please review your footage and get in touch if you believe you have captured a black Mercedes.”

Emergency services have now left the scene and Hertfordshire Highways confirmed the London Colney roundabout has reopened following the incident.
