Six people have been arrested after a stolen digger was spotted on the M25.

The digger, that is estimated to be worth more than £50,0000, was spotted on the M25 on the back of a truck last night (July 15).

Officers were alerted that the digger was stolen from the Dunstable area of Bedfordshire, and was travelling down the motorway, with a black Kia Sedona travelling in convoy.

Both vehicles were stopped between junction 23 in South Mimms and junction 24 by Potters Bar of the M25, with traffic brought to a standstill.

The road was fully reopened by 7.20pm and six people were arrested on suspicion of theft.

They all remain in police custody at this time.

A search was later carried out at an address in Wharf Road at Wormley, Broxbourne, in connection with the incident, and several more suspected stolen vehicles were recovered.

Inspector Victoria Richards, of the Tactical Resources Team, said: “All vehicles involved have since been recovered. I would like to thank all motorists who were held up on the M25 last night as a result of this operation for their patience.

“The temporary road closure allowed us to recover the stolen vehicle and make arrests within an hour of the initial report coming in.”
