A Rabbi has replaced the mezuzot on the homes of two Jewish families who were targeted in what police are treating as "racially motivated crimes".
Rabbi Alex Chapper, Senior Rabbi of Borehamwood & Elstree United Synagogue, has been supporting the families in Borehamwood following incidents earlier this month.
One household's scroll and its encasing mezuzah was found destroyed on May 17, while another Mezuzah in the same road on the Farriers Way estate went missing on the same day.
Police were made aware of both incidents and it came just days after a Pro-Palestinian protester was filmed in a car convoy in north London calling for Jewish daughter to be "raped".
Although not members of Rabbi Chapper's community, the religious leader reached out to homeowners Martine Stone and Suzie Wilson after learning about what had happened to their respective mezuzah's.
Rabbi Chapper said: "Having seen how distressed the families were when their mezuzot was vandalised, I was delighted to be able to provide them with a replacement and put it up for them."
Ms Stone said: "After experiencing the shock of my mezuzah being destroyed last week, I was heartened by the loving support of the local Jewish community, and indeed the greater Borehamwood community at large Rabbi Chapper has been incredible.
"He did not know my neighbour Suzie Wilson nor myself, yet made efforts to seek us out, providing pastoral support and care. The Rabbi replaced our mezuzot on Monday, for which we are extremely grateful."
After the mezuzah's were targeted on May 17, Hertsmere's chief inspector said antisemitism "would not be tolerated" in Hertsmere.
Chief Insp Mark Bilsdon said: "I would like to make it clear to the local Jewish community that we will not tolerate anti-Semitism. Please be reassured that thorough enquiries are being carried out to find those responsible and get justice.
"We have currently got extra patrols in place across Hertsmere; please don’t be afraid to approach us with any concerns when you see us out and about. I would also like to reassure you that we have reported these incidents centrally so that it can feed into the wider intelligence picture across the UK."
Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed it was investigating two "racially motivated crimes".
