An electricity network distributor says thousands of residents are benefitting from a multi-million pound project to upgrade their electricity supplies.
Two years of work at a Barnet substation by the UK Power Networks has future proofed the power supply to more than 55,000 customers in Borehamwood, Elstree, Potters Bar, as well as parts of Barnet.
UK Power Networks invested £3.5million in upgrading the electricity equipment and protecting it from the weather and any other external factors that might cause damage by enclosing it in a new steel building above potential flood levels.
When engineers first started clearing the site ready for the project, they found more than 300 golf balls that had been hit over the fence from a nearby driving range.

Arinze Udenwa, project manager for UK Power Networks, said: "This important project has made power supplies more reliable for thousands of customers and protected it for the future.
"This means as well as reducing the chance of occasional power cuts, homes and businesses which do experience one will be off supply for a shorter time as the technology means power can be restored remotely.
"This project is one of the multi-million pound schemes being carried out this year by UK Power Networks to ensure we continue to provide resilient power supplies for the local communities we serve."
