A huge emergency service presence was spotted outside a station today after reports a train had struck something.
The British Transport Police were alerted to an incident at Elstree & Borehamwood train station this afternoon and sent several officers to the scene.
Following a report a Thameslink service had hit something on the line, paramedics were also sent to the station, but thankfully the situation was not as serious as first feared.
A police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Elstree and Borehamwood station at 2.17pm following reports that a train had struck something.
"Emergency services quickly attended and this was found to be damaged infrastructure."
A photo taken by a member of the public showed one ambulance, one police van, and at least five police cars parked outside the entrance to the station.
Thameslink confirmed in a tweet that passengers on the affected train were taken off and put onto another service to allow the initial train which was damaged to undergo further inspection.

Delays remain to services between St Albans & West Hampstead Thameslink - you can continue to use your normal route but allow extra time for your journey.
The train company added that a precautionary inspection of the track was carried out before all lines reopened at around 4.15pm.
Disruption and delays to services on the line ended shortly after 5pm, Thameslink added.
