A burst water main has closed a road for the second time in just under five months.
Radlett Lane is closed in both directions by the entrance to Shenley Park with repairs being carried out.
Affinity Water were at this exact site at the beginning of September, and engineers returned again on Thursday evening to carry out more essential repairs due to another burst water main.
According to Shenley councillor Natalie Susman, the water suppliers have now fixed the leak but the road surface needs to be reinstated, which could still take some time.
According to the traffic management website One Network, Affinity Water has been granted a permit of until Wednesday (February 3) to complete the repairs and reopen the road, but the road may reopen sooner or later than that date.
The closure of Radlett Lane between Radlett and Shenley is untimely because Harper Lane remains shut at the junction of Watling Street due to the creation of a new traffic light junction.
The work was meant to be completed in December but housebuilder Bloor Homes, which has built a development in Harper Lane, confirmed last month the work at the junction is not expected to be completed until the end of February.
It means drivers heading between Radlett and Shenley will need to divert via Borehamwood or Park Street.
Bus company Uno has already confirmed on Twitter that its 602 service is diverting via Borehamwood.
Cllr Susman wrote on the Shenley Parish Council Facebook group that she has asked Affinity Water to "urgently" carry out the works required because of the Harper Lane closure.
