Plans have been submitted to demolish an empty church and build new houses and a community facility.
The scheme proposed is to knock down St Andrews Reform United Church in Aycliffe Road in Borehamwood and replace it with nine three-storey four-bedroom houses.
The church has been empty since December 2018 after worshippers from Borehamwood moved into St Andrews' other church in Chesterfield Road in Barnet.
In a letter published in Hertsmere Borough Council’s planning portal, Allan Down, the chairman of the United Reform Church development group, explains its unused church building in Borehamwood has become a financial "burden".
Further planning documents add that regeneration of the Aycliffe Road site will provide funds for the redevelopment of the church in Barnet.
The applicants for this scheme have been in discussions with council officers over redeveloping this site since June 2019, with a final proposal for nine homes now submitted.
The plans state that the council is keen to ensure there continues to be a community facility on site
A total of 21 parking spaces proposed, including three for the community facility.
