A new bandstand will be constructed in a park in Borehamwood at a cost of nearly £60,000.
Hertsmere Borough Council has granted permission for the new structure in Meadow Park which is hoped will be ready for use this summer.
The leader of Elstree & Borehamwood Town Council, Pat Strack, said she was "absolutely delighted" to receive permission from the council’s planning committee for the bandstand, which she says will be available for use by the whole community.
Brass band concerts under the new permanent bandstand have already been planned for June 27, July 4, July 11, and July 18.
Up to £59,500 will be spent on the bandstand, funded by the town council, after funding was agreed at a full council meeting back in June.
The borough council will be liable for the bandstand’s future upkeep and maintenance.
Cllr Strack said: "I am absolutely delighted that Borehamwood will have a bandstand and performance area for use by the whole community.
"A big thank you to everyone who worked with us to make this happen.”
Andrew Grady spoke in favour of the application at the virtual meeting last week, and while the plans received no objections, and no one registered to speak against the application, local councillor Michelle Vince, speaking as a community advocate, said "it was not the time" to be spending money on a "luxury item" (bandstand) saying "we all know of residents suffering from real hardship at this time".
Everyone on the committee who spoke on the application were in favour of the bandstand saying it would "improve the park" and provide a boost for the performing arts in the town.
All those who cast a vote were in favour of the application.
