A scheme to create a new traffic light junction will not be completed for another couple of months, a housing developer has announced.
Work at the junction of Harper Lane and Watling Street, near Radlett, was scheduled to be completed by December 17.
But Bloor Homes, the company behind the new 200 plus home Harperbury Park development in Harper Lane, says "unforeseen delays" has pushed the completion date way back to February 28.
It means there will be no access for drivers in or out of Harper Lane, where it meets Watling Street, for at least another 70 days, and motorists will need to continue diverting via Shenley or Park Street.
It is not clear which phase construction workers are in, but the junction looks far from finished with the road surface in Harper Lane ripped up and no sign of any traffic lights.
The overrunning scheme, which began on August 3, involves installing three-way traffic lights and turning the bridge in Harper Lane single file, in order to accommodate a new cycle lane and footpath for residents at Harperbury Park.
The work was agreed by Hertfordshire County Council, despite a strong campaign from residents in Radlett, who were concerned about what impact the new traffic lights would have on the road network.
A statement from Bloor Homes, published online, says: "As part of the installation of a signalised junction at Harper Lane/Watling Street in Radlett, the necessary closure of Harper Lane, Radlett was scheduled to end on December 17 2020.
"However, due to unforeseen delays during the various service diversions, this unfortunately means that the planned completion date of the highway work is due be February28 2021."
A speed reduction limit will remain in place in Watling Street while work continues.
Bloor Homes added: "In addition to working closely with Hertfordshire County Council to ensure that the best solution possible is proposed, Bloor Homes is committed to ensuring that the necessary
construction work is undertaken with disruption kept as minimal as is possible.
"The junction signalisation and widening work includes major service diversions and installation of new service provisions, carriageway widening, installation of permanent traffic signals and central traffic
islands, new safety railings, retaining features and highway drainage alterations.
"This will be followed by the final phase of works which are tarmac surfacing, white lining, snagging and remedial work, safety audit.
"Bloor Homes apologises for any noise or inconvenience caused during these works."
