Chief reporter Anna Slater’s article concerning the £1million grant allocated to the Leeming and Aycliffe areas is a very interesting question indeed and deserves an answer (‘Community demands answers about grant’, Borehamwood & Elstree Times, June 26). But will we get one?
It is very much like when you ask about the contracting out of services and utilities, conveniently, “nobody knows” or “nobody is saying”. Please take note of the inverted commas. In this situation the usual answer is commercial confidentiality or the citing of the Data Protection Act.
My feelings on the subject are simply no accountability, no right to know, even though the people who are asking pay a proportion of what they earn in taxes – this is a mockery of democracy The only way to radiate any light whatsoever is through the Freedom of Information Act.
Finally, may I wish the campaigners success in their efforts and that our local paper pursues this case until some satisfactory answers are given.
